Review of Rhapsody of Love Concert
New Hope Hits High Note for Orange County Youth Music Program

On Sunday, November 6, 2009, the music ministry of New Hope Presbyterian Church hit a high note with its highly acclaimed Rhapsody of Love Benefit Concert held at the Orange County Arts Pavilion in Santa Ana, CA.
Rhapsody of Love featured the Elevation Orchestra, created and directed by Ryan Cross, a world renowned cellist and bassist, as well as television and film score composer. Cross has commissioned arrangers who have written for Michael Jackson, Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, and Alicia Keys.
KABC-TV News anchor Leslie Sykes very ably emceed the concert. Hollywood actor and singer Keith David made a special appearance, lending his speaking and singing voice to heighten the enjoyment of the program.
The audience was treated to an evening of instrumental and vocal blending that created soul-stirring and memorable emotional power. Kathryn Bailey Cunningham, New Hope Choir Director, set the tone by opening with a powerful medley of hope arranged by bassist Reggie Goodjoin, New Hope Music Director.

The intensity continued to grow as guest conductors, Michael Bearden and Greg Porèe took their turns with the baton to direct the Elevation Orchestra. The audience broke out in wild applause at Michael Bearden’s skillful arrangement blending the American National Anthem and the National Negro Anthem.
The concert also featured memorable solos from Sandra Booker, jazz soloist, Lesa Terry, jazz violinist and Harry Scorzo, violinist.

Dr. Audrey Yamagata-Noji on behalf of the Santa Ana School District greeted the audience and acknowledged her appreciation for the partnership New Hope has formed to help strengthen and bolster the school music programs.
